CHRISTIAN WERTHMANN is an Associate Professor and Program Director at the Landscape Architecture Department of the Harvard Graduate School of Design. He is a trained landscape architect with extensive construction experience in Europe and the United States. In his academic work, he researches the implementation of ecological infrastructure in heavily urbanized areas, especially non-formal cities of the Global South. His work resulted in the book "Green Roof -A Case Study" and in the forthcoming book "Landscape Operations in the Non-formal City" (both by Princeton Architectural Press). He regularly engages in research projects, curates exhibitions, has written widely about informal urbanism, and consults on large scale informal city upgrading projects bridging the gap between engineering sciences and landscape design. For his design research on informal urbanism he recently was awarded the Hans Fischer Senior Fellowship by the Technical University of Munich, an award given out to researchers who explore innovative, high-risk topics.
